Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an enquiry?

You can make an enquiry by sending an email, via phone or by completing the enquiry form.

Do you offer a consultation appointment?

Yes.  I offer a free 15 minute consultation appointment via phone.  A consultation is a really good place to start, ensuring we are a good fit to work together.

What type of therapy is available?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

How do I attend my sessions?

I provide in person and online sessions. Online sessions are delivered online via Microsoft Teams and/or Bilateral Base (a specific EMDR platform). For online work it is essential that you have a private space, good quality internet connection (at least 30mbps speed), a camera and a good sound quality either directly via the computer or via headphones.  If you would prefer face to face sessions, these are at my clinic located in Low Fell, Gateshead.

Do I have to attend regularly?

I usually recommend that people attend therapy regularly in order to make the best use of it - weekly is best, if possible. However, I understand that this isn't always possible for lots of different reasons, so I am happy to be as flexible as possible in order to accommodate people. I am happy to agree a mutually convenient reoccurring time for people that want to commit to coming regularly, or I'm happy to book week by week for people that need more flexibility.

How many sessions will I need?

It's hard to say how many sessions people will want or need. The best option is to let me know of any specific needs you may have around timeframes, so we can come to an arrangement that works for both of us.

Is there homework involved?

Therapy can sometimes involve homework, but this doesn't always work for people, so it isn't essential.

Do you offer supervision to therapists?  I am currently a consultant in training in EMDR and will soon be offering consultation to EMDR therapists and be able to support applications for accreditation. In the meantime I am able to offer EMDR supervision, however these hours cannot be counted towards an accreditation application.

Is my information kept confidential?

There are rare occasions when I need to share information about you with other organisations, if I am worried that you (or someone else) is at serious risk of harm. This is part of my statutory duty, and I will discuss this with you when we start working together.  You can view my Privacy Policy for further information by clicking here.

How do I know which therapy I need?

When we have had our consultation, the information provided will guide myself in knowing which type of therapy would be appropriate.  Even though I provide different models of therapy,  my focus is to adapt therapy to fit with you.  This may mean multiple models of therapy are used and combined.  In short, we don't have to pick one and stick to it!

Can I use my private insurance policy to pay for my treatment?

Yes, I am registered to provide treatment for AXA, Vitality and Aviva insurance companies. To proceed, I will need your membership number and authorisation code, and you will need to provide me with evidence from your insurer about how many sessions have been authorised, and whether anything like a report or letter is needed. An email or screenshot of a text message is usually sufficient.
